About Us

Arepas - Cachapas - Tequenos +

We exist to make delicious and authentic food, bringing together our community of arepa-lovers and newcomers, so that arepas, in time, can become a household name.

The Arepa Zone brand was born out of our sister company Antojitos de tu Pais, a company dedicated to the distribution of Venezuelan products like traditional cheeses, baked goods, candies, drinks, flours and condiments.

After serving the DMV region with door-to-door deliveries, organizing Venezuelan festivals and numerous Venezuelan gatherings, we became aware of the need for a proper Venezuelan eatery in our region. We began brainstorming and we took advantage of the current boom in the food truck industry to launch our concept.

After a year of planning and a few months of construction, our bright yellow food truck hit the streets of Washington, DC and Arlington in April of 2014, becoming the first and only food truck to serve Venezuelan arepas in the region.

Ever since, our business has seen much growth, with the addition of a stall inside of DC’s iconic Union Market, and the construction of our own state-of-the-art commercial kitchen. Our first brick-and-mortar restaurant opened in December 2017.

In July 2018, we opened up a concession stand inside of DC United’s Audi Field. In April of 2019, we opened up another sister company, Wayoyo Coffee, inside DC’s convention center.

The pandemic hit hard and we had to pivot to make things work. We closed our Union Market location in March 2020, and because there were no events in the Convention Center in 2020 we also decided to close our Wayoyo location.

We did, however, open up a sister concept, Mosaico by Arepa Zone inside La Cosecha latin market in the fall of 2020.

As a result of the pandemic, and because of the high demand for our products in the DMV region, we are also proud to say that we offering our door-to-door delivery service once again.

We hope to see you at one of our locations in the near future!
